Yannis Bousios is an emerging artist and practicing architect, currently based in London and originally from Athens, Greece. Trained as an architect, at the National Technical University of Athens where he completed a five-year Diploma in Architecture, his practice occurs between visual art, spatial research and personal experience. He focuses on memory, heritage and the ways in which places and personal histories are experienced, transformed and remembered. He is particularly interested in the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit, the traces that experiences leave behind, and the collection and visual expression of individual stories.
Throughout his practice, he has experimented with photography, drawing, colour, mould-making, digital fabrication and relief printmaking. He often combines hand-drawn or photographic observations, with digital transformation and physical fabrication, using 3D printing and handmade printing processes, to translate personal and collected material into new visual forms.
In 2017, he contributed photographic and sound work to the Victoria Square Project in Athens, a social sculpture project part of Documenta 14, exploring cultural, social and economic changes within an Athenian neighbourhood during the Greek financial crisis. Since relocating to London, he has continued to observe and collect visual traces of the city and its changing social landscape, while developing a parallel body of work concerned with personal heritage, memory and inherited stories. His current practice brings these interests together through experimental printmaking and processes of repetition, translation and transformation.
