Dead Letters
{ A dead letter is a message that cannot reach its intended recipient }
This series started with fragments of a world that does not exist any more. I came upon embroidery pieces that my grandma made and began translating them into images. Compositions in some cases based on memories almost intact, while in others they are reconstructed from traces, impressions and experiences that remain after their details have faded.
It was these inherited fragments that allowed me to experiment on my own forms. Pieces received and what is created in response are the pillars of my work: a visual correspondence between memory, absence and imagination.
Built through repetition, colour and geometric forms, the images become fragments of an ongoing communication. Arranged together, they form a private language of messages that continue to search for their recipient.
I made these images for someone who cannot see them.
